Since 1970, Joel Shapiro has been the subject of numerous solo and retrospective exhibitions worldwide. His work can be found in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art, the Whitney Museum, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; the Tate Gallery, London; and the Musée National d’Art Moderne, Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris; among many others. In 2016, Shapiro exhibited new sculpture and works on paper at the Nasher Sculpture Center in Dallas, Texas, and in 2017 he was the subject of a survey exhibition at the Kunstmuseum Winterthur, Switzerland, as well as a solo exhibition at Pace London. He recently showed new sculpture and works on paper at Paula Cooper Gallery, New York, and was the subject of an exhibition at Yale University Art Gallery in New Haven, Connecticut. Shapiro is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Letters and was named Chevalier in the Order of Arts and Letters by the French Ministry of Culture in 2005. He lives and works in New York City.
