The New York painter and film-maker Alfred Leslie (born 1927) began his career as a gymnast and bodybuilder, posing for artists including Reginald Marsh and modeling in classes at the Art Students League and Pratt Institute. Leslie then made the switch from muse to maker. At first he worked in an Abstract Expressionist style but was drawn back to the human form, becoming a figurative artist later in his career.
